1.   What are glycols? How is ethylene glycol prepared? Discuss its properties and constitution.
2. (a) What is Pinacol-pinacolone rearrangement? Discuss its mechanism.
  (b) Discuss the constitution of glycerol.
3. (a) How will you distinguish between Phenol and Benzyl alcohol?
  (b) Mention the methods of preparation, properties and uses of diethyl ether.
4. (a) Describe the nomenclature, isomerism and structure of carboxylic acids.
  (b) Give the points of similarities and dissimilarities between formic acid and acetic acid.
5.   How is citric acid prepared? Give its important properties and uses. Discuss its constitution.
6.   Describe the structure and nomenclature of acid chlorides, acid anhydrides, acid amides and acid esters.
7. (a) Discuss Sic wick’s electronic interpretation of coordination compounds.
  (b) How many types of titrations do you know? Give the experimental procedure employed in the estimation of CuSO4 in a given solution. What are the precautions observed in titration?
8. (a) Why is barium precipitated as BaSO4 in hot?
  (b) How will you distinguish between primary, secondary and tertiary amines?
9.   Write short notes on the following :

(i) Hofmann bromamide reaction        (ii) Gabrial phthalimide synthesis
