# Types of Sequences & Series – Finite Sequences & Infinite Sequences

**In previous sequence and series videos we learnt introduction to the sequence and series and some basic concepts we discussed. Now in this video we are going to learn the type of the sequences based on number of terms in the particular sequence.**

**Types of Sequence**

**There are many types of the sequence or series in arithmetic math. But based on number of terms of the sequences we can generally categories them into two major categories.**

** 1. Finite Sequences**

** 2. Infinite Sequences**

**Let’s talk about them one by one:**

** 1. Finite Sequence**

**Those sequence in which there are finite numbers of terms. It means the number of terms are limited and can be counted how many numbers exactly there are. For example:**

** S = { 2, 4, 6, 8, ………………………, 100 }**

** G = { 1 , 4, 9, 16, …………………. , 625}**

** In above example the number of terms in the sequence is fixed means we can count them how much exactly numbers of terms there are in these sequence. That is why we say this sequence a finite sequence.**

** Generally we write finite sequence giving some name to sequence like s & G in above then = to sing and inside the curly bracket starting with first term ( like 2 & 1 in above example) …….upto last term ( like 100 & 625 in above example) then close it by again curly bracket).**

**2. Infinite Sequence**

**The sequence which contains infinite numbers of terms is called finite sequences. It means the sequence having uncountable numbers of terms. For example :**

** S = { 2 , 4, 6, 8, …………………………….}**

** G = { 1, 4, 9, 16, …………………………….}**

**Infinite sequence is generally as shown above. First name of the sequence ( like S & G) then equal to sing (=) and then inside curly bracket first term, second term, third term, …so on…………….and curly bracket close.**
